Oulton Park International -
23rd and 24th April 2005
Formula Ford rounds 3 and 4
Team JLR's Winning Weekend
Oulton Park played host to rounds 3 and 4 of the 2005 Formula Ford championship this weekend where Joe D'Agostino gave Team JLR a double-win.
Starting round 3 from pole on the Saturday, Joe remained at the front throughout the race taking the chequered flag ahead of his rivals. Jonny Baker and Thor-Christian Ebbesvik were involved in a racing incident on lap 5 but were enjoying a good race up until then. "It was going pretty well" commented Jonny. "I found some good pace in the morning."
Round 4 and Joe again was leading the pack by the exit of the first corner with a brave move around the outside of Charlie Donnelly and remained in that position to the end - taking the fastest lap on lap 5 with a time of 1:43.337 - only 2/10ths of a second away from the lap record.
"I got the better start & was stronger and just did the business all the way and was able to make a gap and win it." Joe told us afterwards. "It's important to get as many points as I can so I'm always trying to get fastest laps and poles - any extra points I can really because it could come down to the wire. I'm really happy. It's always nice to reward the team with wins and a good weekend and I think we did just that. Charlie Donnelly's got a fight on his hands... I think in the end mentally I'm stronger and also on the track I'm stronger so hopefully at the end of the year we can lift up the crown." This win makes 3 out of 4 for the young Floridian.
Thor-Christian finished in 4th position after spending much of his time alone on the track having being delayed by an incident between Darwin Smith and local driver Steve Roberts. He told us at Team JLR "I got really quick into a comfort zone because there was nobody in front and nobody on my back so I just went around and did a really great fourth place".
Jonny however had more of a fight on his hands making up positions from 8th on the grid. The fight went right down to the last corner on the last lap with Jonny just clinching 6th overall and his first scholarship class win of the season.
